Dele Farotimi: Humanity Is Lost When We Accept Injustice Against Others

In a poignant statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Nigerian lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi reflected on the intrinsic human resistance to injustice and inequality.

His words, which have since sparked widespread engagement, underscored the fundamental role of this resistance in defining human existence. “The human spirit reflexively rebels against injustice and inequality,” Farotimi wrote, capturing the essence of humanity’s innate drive to challenge oppression.

He emphasized that this reflex is not merely a reaction but a core aspect of what it means to be human. According to Farotimi, the refusal to accept unfair treatment, whether directed at oneself or others, is a defining characteristic of human dignity.

Farotimi further elaborated on the consequences of ignoring this instinct. “We lose our very humanity when we find accommodation for injustice against others, and or acceptance for the same, when visited upon our persons,” he stated.

This stark warning highlights the moral decay that accompanies complacency in the face of wrongdoing. By tolerating injustice, Farotimi argued, individuals risk eroding the very qualities that make them human.

The activist’s message concluded with a powerful assertion about the importance of this resistance. “This reflex defines our very existence, and without it, we might as well be dead,” he declared.
