The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across the country to look out for the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Okay.ng reports that the directive was issued on Friday in a statement signed by Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Saturday, March 29, corresponding to the 29th day of Ramadan 1446 AH, shall be the day to look for the new crescent of Shawwal 1446 AH,” the statement said.

The Sultan encouraged Muslims who sight the new moon to report their observations to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultanate Council.

The council also provided contact numbers through which confirmed moon sightings can be reported: 08037157100, 07067416900, 08066303077, 08035965322, and 08099945903.

The statement further quoted the Sultan as praying for Allah’s guidance and blessings upon the entire Muslim Ummah as they conclude their Ramadan obligations.

The sighting of the Shawwal moon will signal the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid al-Fitr, a major celebration in the Islamic calendar observed with communal prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.
