IGP Orders Emir Sanusi to Abuja for Questioning on Durbar Incident

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has been officially summoned by the Nigeria Police Force to appear for questioning regarding alleged violations and violence that occurred during the recent Sallah Durbar celebrations. The invitation, issued under the directive of the Inspector General of Police, is contained in a letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye.

The letter directs Emir Sanusi to report to the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. for an investigative meeting concerning “an incident that occurred during Sallah celebration within your domain.”

This invitation follows the Kano Police Command’s establishment of a Special Investigative Panel (SIP) to probe the violence that disrupted the Sallah festivities and the alleged disregard for the police-imposed ban on durbar activities. Prior to the Sallah celebration, security agencies had announced restrictions on durbar processions due to security and safety concerns.

In connection with the violence, the police command previously arrested Usman Sagiru, 20, for alleged involvement in the killing and attack on vigilante members within Emir Sanusi’s entourage after Eid prayers. The command also extended an invitation to Alhaji Wada Isyaku, the Shamakin Kano, for questioning.

Despite the announced ban, Emir Sanusi reportedly proceeded with the traditional Durbar processions, attracting large crowds on both Sallah day and during the Hawan Nasarawa, which included a visit to the Government House.
