Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Saturday emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the 2025 Anambra State election, securing his place on the ballot for a second term in office.

The primary election, held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, was conducted under tight security and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Soludo garnered 3,171 out of 3,175 votes cast by accredited delegates drawn from all 326 political wards across the state.

The governor was affirmed through a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ voting process, a method the party said was in full compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022.

Presenting the certificate of return, Chief Uchenna Nwegbo, chairman of the APGA Primary Election Committee, described the process as transparent and in line with electoral guidelines. He further stated that Soludo’s unopposed candidacy reflected the party’s overwhelming confidence in his leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Soludo expressed appreciation to APGA members, describing the primary as a well-organised and peaceful exercise. He lauded the delegates for their orderly conduct and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the state’s development agenda.

“Never before in Anambra’s history has there been such a wide consensus,” Soludo said. “I am truly humbled, and I assure you that I will not let APGA and the people of Anambra down. Our journey towards infrastructure development, human capital investment, security, and economic transformation continues—unbroken.”

He also announced that his current deputy, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, would remain his running mate for the November 8 governorship election.

Soludo, a former Central Bank Governor, was first elected in 2021 and has since anchored his administration on reform-driven policies and grassroots development.
