Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, reached out to him for reconciliation amid their protracted political feud.

Wike made the disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, confirming that Fubara visited him alongside two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors in a bid to broker peace.

The two political figures, once allies, have been at odds since Fubara assumed office as governor in 2023, a development that spiralled into a full-blown crisis in the state.

Their rift eventually led to President Bola Tinubu declaring a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Fubara and his deputy, and appointing a Sole Administrator to oversee the state.

Speaking to journalists, Wike noted that he had accepted the path of peace in deference to the President’s intervention.

“The President had called for peace severally and I can’t sit down and say no when the President has called for peace,” Wike said.

“Yes, he came with two governors, unfortunately they are APC governors – I won’t pursue him. He said he wants peace and I also want peace.”

The former Rivers governor stressed that reconciliation is possible but conditioned it on Fubara taking responsibility and making the right decisions to restore calm in the state.

“This means that there are open windows for you. Take the necessary steps if you want peace. This is a self-inflicted injury, he doesn’t need it,” Wike added.

“When it started I called him saying this thing is not good for you because God has given it to you. Why not humbly handle it and not allow people push you?”

Wike’s remarks signal a cautious openness to reconciliation, but also highlight lingering tensions between both camps.

Okay.ng reports that Fubara, during a recent public appearance, said he had emotionally detached from office and was not desperate to return, further fuelling uncertainty over the future of governance in Rivers State.
