The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded the resignation of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following the examination body’s acknowledgment of errors in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

In a statement by NANS’ National Public Relations Officer, Samson Adeyemi, the group described the errors as a “damning indictment of the institution’s incompetence.” This reaction follows Oloyede’s emotional apology during a press conference in Abuja, where he admitted to staff negligence and assured affected students of an opportunity to retake the exams.

Adeyemi criticized JAMB’s handling of the situation, highlighting the psychological distress caused to students and linking the incident to the tragic suicide of a student in Lagos. He remarked, “This catastrophic failure has shattered the dreams of countless students, subjected them to untold psychological distress, and, in this case, driven a young scholar to the ultimate despair.”

NANS demanded Oloyede’s immediate resignation, compensation for the deceased student’s family, and reforms to prevent future occurrences. While JAMB announced a rescheduled UTME for 379,997 affected candidates, NANS stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the process.

Adeyemi concluded by urging the federal government to enforce measures ensuring such lapses do not recur.
