In a significant national event, President Bola Tinubu arrived at the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, 2025, to deliver a keynote address commemorating the 2025 Democracy Day. The day, which was officially designated as Democracy Day and a national public holiday during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, celebrates Nigeria’s democratic progress.

President Tinubu’s arrival at the National Assembly Complex was precisely at 11:50 a.m., where he was accompanied by several high-ranking government officials. Among them were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. Their presence underscored the importance of the occasion and the government’s commitment to democratic ideals.

The House of Representatives chambers, the venue for the presidential address, was also graced by the presence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Notably, three former Senate Presidents—Anyim Pius Anyim, Bukola Saraki, and Ahmed Lawan—were in attendance, alongside former Speaker Patricia Etteh and ex-House Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha. This gathering of past and present legislative leaders highlighted the unity and continuity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

As the nation reflects on its democratic journey, President Tinubu’s speech is anticipated to address key political and social issues, including governance, national unity, and the challenges facing Nigeria’s democracy. Further details of the address will be provided as the event unfolds.
