The High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has handed down a death sentence to Oluwatimileyin Ajayi for the murder of Salome Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The sentencing took place on Thursday, with Justice Simon Aboki presiding over the case.

Justice Aboki found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide after the prosecution presented evidence that Ajayi killed and dismembered the victim. The crime was described as particularly gruesome, leading to the court’s decision to impose the death penalty by hanging.

Ajayi was convicted on a single count charge of culpable homicide, which is punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria. The law mandates the death sentence for such offenses.

Okay.ng reports that this case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the swift judicial process. The court’s ruling reflects the seriousness with which Nigerian courts treat violent crimes against NYSC members.
