The Senate has sworn in Joseph Ikpea and Emmanuel Nwachukwu as new members representing Edo Central and Anambra South senatorial districts.

The ceremony, held during Wednesday’s plenary session, was presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, with the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Ojo, administering the oaths of office and allegiance.

Their inauguration followed recent by-elections conducted to replace former senators whose seats became vacant. Monday Okpebholo’s seat was declared vacant following his election as Governor of Edo State, while the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s death in July 2024 created the other vacancy.

Before the swearing-in, the Senate temporarily suspended its rules to allow family members and dignitaries into the chamber.

Among those present were former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, and former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, alongside several political leaders and associates of the new lawmakers.

Akpabio congratulated Ikpea and Nwachukwu, urging them to uphold the Senate’s standing rules and focus on legislation that strengthens democracy and national unity.

With their induction, the 10th Senate now has its full complement of 109 members.
