Nigeria has lost one of its most respected elder statesmen, Dr. Christopher Kolade, who passed away at the age of 92. The veteran broadcaster, renowned diplomat, and corporate leader died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, according to a statement released by his family on Thursday.

The family’s announcement expressed gratitude for his long life of purpose, faith, and service to humanity. “We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” the statement read in part.

Dr. Kolade, who once served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, was widely admired for his integrity, professionalism, and exemplary leadership across different sectors. He left an indelible mark in broadcasting, corporate governance, academia, and public service.

Born in 1932 in Erin-Oke, Osun State, to an Anglican missionary father, Kolade’s upbringing was deeply rooted in faith and discipline. He attended the prestigious Government College, Ibadan, before proceeding to Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he completed his higher education and laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to excellence.

Kolade began his illustrious career in broadcasting, where he rose through the ranks to become Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation. His time in the industry was characterized by professionalism, innovation, and a commitment to ethical journalism, which earned him widespread respect.

Later, he transitioned into the corporate world, joining Cadbury Nigeria Plc, where he served as Chief Executive Officer and later as Chairman. Under his leadership, Cadbury became one of Nigeria’s most reputable multinational firms, recognized for strong corporate values and social responsibility.

As a diplomat, Kolade’s appointment as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom marked a defining moment in his career. He represented the nation with dignity and diplomacy, strengthening bilateral relations and promoting Nigeria’s image abroad.

Okay News reports that beyond his service in diplomacy and business, Dr. Kolade was also passionate about education and youth development. He taught Corporate Governance and Human Resources Management at the Lagos Business School, as well as Leadership and Conflict Management at the School of Media and Communication, both under the Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.

He was a member of the university’s Governing Council, served as its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, and later became the Chancellor of McPherson University, Ogun State. His commitment to nurturing future leaders reflected his lifelong dedication to ethics and moral leadership.

Throughout his life, Dr. Kolade championed integrity in public and private institutions. He chaired several transparency-driven organizations, including Integrity Organisation Limited and The Convention on Business Integrity Limited, where he played a key role in promoting ethical standards across Nigeria’s business landscape.

His passing marks the end of an era for Nigeria’s diplomatic and academic communities, leaving behind a legacy defined by honesty, mentorship, and unwavering service to humanity. Tributes have continued to pour in from across the country, celebrating his life as one dedicated to truth, good governance, and the upliftment of others.
