The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially postponed its much-anticipated 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was earlier slated for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, citing recent developments within the party as the reason for the change.

The announcement was made on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement released through the party’s verified account on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

According to Ologunagba, the decision was reached following an emergency session convened by the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja. The committee, he explained, exercised its authority in line with Section 29 (2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) to shift the date of the NEC meeting.

He stated, “Distinguished members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) may recall that the 103rd NEC meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, 15th October, 2025. However, in view of recent developments in the party, the National Working Committee (NWC), in exercise of its powers pursuant to Section 29 (2)(b) of the Constitution (as amended in 2017), has at its emergency meeting on Monday, 13th October, 2025, approved the postponement of the 103rd NEC meeting to a new date that will be communicated to members in due course.”

The PDP leadership urged all NEC members and stakeholders to take note of the postponement and await further instructions from the party’s national secretariat in Abuja regarding the new date.

Okay News reports that the postponement comes at a time when the opposition party is facing mounting internal pressure and political turbulence, especially following a wave of high-profile defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent weeks.

The defections have sparked renewed calls for unity within the PDP, with several senior figures emphasizing the importance of internal cohesion ahead of the party’s forthcoming national convention.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has publicly expressed confidence in the party’s resilience, declaring that neither internal defections nor external political forces would derail the PDP’s plans.

Mohammed reaffirmed the party’s readiness to go ahead with its National Convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, between November 15 and 16, 2025. He stated that the PDP remains focused on rebuilding its structures and reclaiming public trust ahead of future elections.

Political analysts view the latest decision to postpone the NEC meeting as a strategic move by the party’s leadership to resolve internal differences, consolidate its agenda, and ensure broader participation when the meeting eventually holds.

As the PDP prepares for its national convention, all eyes remain on how the opposition party will navigate its internal politics, address leadership concerns, and strengthen its base amid Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
