Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to release the access code required to upload the party’s list of candidates for the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

Abure made the appeal during the quarterly consultative meeting between INEC and political party leaders in Abuja on Tuesday. The meeting, presided over by the Acting INEC Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, marked her first major engagement since taking over from Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, INEC assured the Labour Party delegation that the commission would review the issue and ensure fair consideration of their request.

Abure attended the meeting alongside the National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, reaffirming his leadership status following a recent court judgment that ended months of internal disputes within the party.

He commended Agbamuche-Mbu for her leadership and legal expertise, expressing confidence that her tenure would strengthen institutional integrity and uphold due process within the commission.

“When lawyers are in charge, institutions are built and democracy grows stronger. This is what we are beginning to see under her leadership,” Abure said.

He urged INEC to expedite the release of the upload code, stressing that the Labour Party had duly followed all procedures, issued notices, and conducted primaries in line with electoral guidelines.

“The list of our FCT candidates is already with INEC. We appeal for the release of the upload code so our candidates can join the campaign for the Area Council election,” he added.

Abure further expressed optimism that INEC, under Agbamuche-Mbu, would operate effectively, constitutionally, and in full adherence to the rule of law ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting was attended by chairmen and secretaries of all 18 registered political parties, along with INEC national commissioners.
