The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the dualisation of the Outer Southern Expressway, linking Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II, aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity within the capital city.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, inaugurated the project on Wednesday in Abuja, noting that it would ease traffic congestion along the Apo–Wasa corridor and shorten travel time for residents heading to the city centre.

“This road is very important. Before the service lane was built, travelling into the city took hours. It was horrible,” Wike said. “We are doing all we can to give the people of the FCT the comfort they deserve.”

He credited President Bola Tinubu’s leadership for making the project possible, explaining that the removal of fuel subsidy had freed funds for states and the FCT to execute infrastructure and pay salaries.

“If Mr President had not taken that decisive decision to end subsidy, many states would still struggle to pay salaries or fund development projects,” Wike stated.

He assured that all promises made under the Renewed Hope administration would be fulfilled, including the relocation of Apo Mechanic dealers and artisans to a permanent site in Wasa. He confirmed that the cost estimates for the new site infrastructure had been submitted by the Federal Capital Development Authority.

FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a strategic investment in urban mobility and economic growth. She said it demonstrates that progress comes not just from policy but from visible transformation in communities.
