The Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Party Chairmen in the Southwest Zone has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, pledging to deliver a landslide victory for him in the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement came during the forum’s Southwest quarterly meeting held on Saturday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The group also promised to embark on a massive grassroots mobilisation campaign, not only to ensure Tinubu’s re-election but also to reclaim Oyo and Osun States, currently governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the forum, President Tinubu has taken several bold and strategic steps to restore the country’s economy and strengthen its stability, adding that his leadership should continue until 2031 to consolidate ongoing reforms.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Forum, Mr Henry Fagbenro, who also serves as the APC Local Government Chairmen Chairman in Ogun State and the Abeokuta South LG Party Chairman, praised both Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritising policies and projects that promote economic development and prosperity.
Fagbenro said, “The Southwest is the home base of our hardworking President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has done fantastically well in redefining good governance since his election over two years ago.
“The Southwest is saying that President Tinubu deserves another term till 2031, and we are going to do everything within our ability, as permitted by law, to work with other Nigerians to make this a reality.
“Already, we have four Southwest states — Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos and Ogun — under the APC. For the two remaining states, Oyo and Osun, we shall embark on massive grassroots mobilisation. We will go from door to door, house to house, community to community, and market to market to further strengthen the party in the Southwest and mobilise for its victory in both the presidential and governorship elections.”
Fagbenro also highlighted the notable progress recorded under Governor Abiodun’s administration, urging him to sustain his developmental strides to improve the welfare of residents.
Okay News reports that the event was attended by party stakeholders, state representatives, and legislators from across the region, who collectively pledged support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The Southwest Coordinator of the Forum, Elder Rufus Awotidoye, described Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 as “non-negotiable.” He urged unity among party members to ensure collective success.
Awotidoye stated, “The 2027 Presidential Election is a defining moment for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and for our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. As the political home of Mr President, the Southwest carries a special responsibility to stand united, committed, and focused in ensuring that the APC continues to lead Nigeria on the path of renewed hope, progress, and prosperity.”
The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Daisi Elemide, who chaired the meeting, echoed calls for unity and reaffirmed his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership. He said the President had shown “genuine commitment to national progress” and deserved another opportunity to serve.
Also speaking, the immediate past Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Ishola, stressed the need for inclusiveness and cooperation within the party ahead of the 2027 elections, saying only a united front could guarantee victory.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr Pius Akutah, who was represented by Atiso Mofiren, delivered the keynote speech. He urged APC local government chairmen to intensify efforts at the grassroots to promote the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic growth, food security, infrastructure, improved security, and access to education through student loans.
He added that “all these laudable initiatives of President Tinubu must be allowed to continue until 2031.”
The National Secretary of the Forum and APC LG Chairmen Chairman in Delta State, Mr Norbert Sochukudinma, charged members in the Southwest to remain steadfast and dedicated, saying the region’s performance in 2027 would strongly influence other geopolitical zones.
He said, “All eyes are on the Southwest as the home of our President. We must show example in unity, loyalty, and delivery at the polls.”
In May 2025, the APC National Working Committee formally endorsed President Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 election, sealing the party’s commitment to his continued leadership.
