Okay News reports that the Farin-Ruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State has raised the alarm over renewed bandit attacks that have left several people dead and displaced many residents.

Speaking during a press conference in Kano on Thursday, the community leader and chairman of the security committee of Farin-Ruwa, Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri, appealed to both the Federal and Kano State Governments to intervene urgently to curb the worsening security situation.

According to Bagobiri, the recurring assaults—believed to be carried out by armed bandits from neighboring Katsina State—have affected several villages, including Farin-Ruwa, Kuraku, Gorantuse, Saure, and Shadu.

“We are here to lodge our complaint to the Federal and Kano State Governments so they can come to our aid over the worsening security situation,” he stated.

He lamented that repeated attacks had resulted in multiple deaths, the destruction of property, and the theft of over 1,600 cows and other valuables. “We are calling on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to come to our aid, as many residents have begun relocating to Kano and other places for safety,” Bagobiri added.

He explained that the bandits operate without resistance, attacking at any hour of the day—morning, evening, or night—often in large groups. “Even yesterday and the day before, the bandits attacked again, injuring several people and stealing more than 40 cows, besides other animals and properties,” he said.

Bagobiri revealed that one kidnapped resident recently paid a ₦15 million ransom to regain freedom, adding that the attackers often storm the villages on about 50 motorcycles during raids.

He emphasized that security personnel currently deployed to the area were grossly inadequate and urged both federal and state authorities to strengthen the response.

The community leader also called on lawmakers representing the Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency to intensify efforts in addressing the growing insecurity. “We also call on our senator and the Federal lawmaker representing Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency to do something, even though they are trying their best,” he said.

The Kano State Police Command had earlier confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Usman Lawan Baba (also known as Yellow), in connection with previous abduction and robbery incidents in the region.

The community urged immediate government action to prevent further loss of lives and ensure lasting peace in the affected areas.
