Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has presented brand-new Toyota Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to traditional rulers across the state as part of his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of royal fathers and strengthening the traditional institution.

The presentation, which took place on Thursday in Akure, the state capital, marked what the governor described as a “historic milestone” in the collective journey towards the progress and dignity of the traditional leadership structure.

Speaking during the ceremony, Aiyedatiwa said, “As the custodians of our rich cultural heritage, the preservers of our values, and the closest link between government and the grassroots, our administration recognises your importance and cannot afford to neglect your welfare.”

According to him, all Grade ‘A’ Obas will receive a Toyota Fortuner Jeep, 2025 model, while all Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ Obas will later be given a Toyota Cross Jeep, 2025 model.

The governor added that the vehicles symbolize honour and respect for traditional rulers, noting that the initiative complements earlier efforts, including the completion of the long-abandoned secretariat project for the state’s Council of Obas and the prompt release of the statutory five per cent allocation from local government funds to the traditional institution.

“Today’s presentation further underscores our firm dedication to your course and our resolve to continue fostering mutual respect and cooperation,” Aiyedatiwa stated.

Okay News reports that the governor expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers for their unwavering support in maintaining peace and stability in their respective domains, urging them to continue to work closely with the government for the benefit of all citizens.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, lauded the gesture as a fulfillment of the governor’s promise to improve the welfare of royal fathers. He praised the monarchs for their consistent role in promoting unity and development across the state.

Responding on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, described the gesture as “befitting and well-deserved.”

He said, “The governor has continued to surprise us in good deeds. We assure him of our continued partnership in progress and peacebuilding for the development of Ondo State.”
