Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed that his administration will defeat terrorism and maintain active engagement with international partners, reaffirming his government’s resolve to strengthen national unity and economic growth despite political challenges.

Speaking on Thursday at the State House in Abuja, shortly after swearing in two new ministers from Enugu and Plateau States, President Tinubu responded to recent global concerns about Nigeria’s internal security, saying his government is pressing ahead with reforms that combine diplomacy, resilience, and national renewal.

“The most important thing is the fact that despite the political headwind and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with our partners. The success of the 2.3 billion bond over subscribed is the most at this stage.” Tinubu said.

“So, the task ahead is immense. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in the country. The task ahead is immense but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose, guided by renewed hope, agenda to build a prosperous, inclusive and resilient Nigeria.”

The President’s comments came after a presentation by Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who reported that the nation’s economy grew by 4.23 percent in the second quarter of 2025, the highest quarterly growth in a decade outside the post-COVID recovery period.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu also swore in Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, from Enugu State, and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, from Plateau State, as new ministers.

Dr. Udeh, who previously served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu, replaces Chief Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned earlier this year. Dr. Doro succeeds Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, recently elected National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The swearing-in, held at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, was followed by a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Tinubu.

The meeting also observed a minute of silence in honour of Senator Solomon Ewuga, a former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and General Mohammed Abdullahi, former Chief of Staff to President Olusegun Obasanjo and Nigeria’s first Director-General of the Nigerian Security Organization (NSO).
