The crisis within Nigeria’s national football team has been resolved as captain William Troost-Ekong announced on Tuesday that all outstanding financial issues between the Super Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been settled.
In a post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Troost-Ekong confirmed that the players’ grievances over unpaid allowances and bonuses had been addressed, allowing the team to refocus on preparations for their 2026 World Cup African playoff semi-final against Gabon.
“Issue RESOLVED. Outstanding financials cleared and on ground. Team is UNITED and focused as before on representing NIGERIA with our maximum for the games ahead! @NGSuperEagles,” the post read.
The update follows days of tension in the Eagles’ camp after the players boycotted training sessions in protest over delayed payments, some reportedly dating back to 2019.
The situation had sparked public debate over the NFF’s handling of player welfare ahead of critical matches.
Okay News reports that the squad had initially refused to train on Tuesday evening in Rabat, where they have been camping, prompting urgent discussions between team officials and the NFF.
With the standoff now resolved, the Super Eagles are expected to resume full training ahead of Thursday’s playoff semi-final clash against Gabon.
The match will determine who advances to face either Congo DR or Cameroon in the final for a spot at the intercontinental playoff — Africa’s last pathway to the 2026 World Cup.
