Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has outlined his burial preferences, stating that his body and all funeral rites should be handled by the Ekiti State Government when he dies.

In a video shared on YouTube by City Edge TV on Saturday, Fayose—who marked his 65th birthday—said he has formally written to the state governor to take custody of his remains and oversee the burial.

“My body belongs to the Ekiti State Government… I must be buried within four weeks,” he said, noting that the government may require time to organise the rites, hence the four-week window.

Fayose also directed his children to participate in the burial process in collaboration with the state, and revealed that he has prepared a resting place in his grandmother’s home where he wishes to be laid to rest. He added that no visits should be made to his grave after the burial.

His remarks surfaced on the same day President Bola Tinubu congratulated him on his 65th birthday, describing him as an important political figure in Nigeria.
