The Lagos State Government in the Federal Republic of Nigeria has issued a comprehensive traffic management announcement ahead of the internationally recognised 2025 Capital City Race scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025, between 6:00 in the morning and 9:00 in the morning. Okay News reports.
The disclosure was made through an official statement released by the Director of Public Affairs of Lagos State, Bolanle Ogunlola, on the social media platform X. The notice explained that the ten kilometre marathon event, organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission in collaboration with the Capital City Race Organisers, will officially commence at the popular Ikeja Shopping Mall located in Ikeja, the capital district of Lagos State.
According to the statement, athletes participating in the race will navigate a mapped-out route that passes through Billings Way, Kudirat Abiola Way, Opebi Link Bridge, Adeniyi Jones, and Oba Akran Avenue before concluding at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church situated along Oba Akinjobi Way in the same Ikeja axis.
Authorities emphasised that several portions of major roads, intersections, and strategic traffic points within the identified route will undergo partial closure for the duration of the athletic event. “As a result, several roads, junctions, and intersections along the race route will be partially closed. These closures will be opened intermittently as the race progresses to ease movement within the axis,” the statement clarified.
The Lagos State Government further stated that officers from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to all relevant locations to ensure safety, orderliness, and smooth traffic flow for both motorists and race participants.
Motorists and residents were urged to exercise patience, plan movements ahead of time, and cooperate with security agencies, noting that the temporary diversions form an essential part of the government’s traffic management strategy for hosting a large-scale sporting event aimed at promoting fitness, unity, and sustained tourism in Lagos State.
