Residents of Illelar Yari, an area also known as Old Prison in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State in North Western Nigeria, were thrown into mourning on Monday following the tragic death of a fourteen-year-old Qur’anic student of Hisbulrahim Talamai’a Sheikh Ibrahim Qur’anic School.
Okay News reports that the father of the deceased, Hassan Guraguri, confirmed the development shortly before the funeral prayer was conducted for his child.
According to the grieving father, his son, identified as Salihu Hassan, was allegedly lured out of the school premises around 6 o’clock in the morning by a twenty-two-year-old resident of the community named Jame Jidda. The suspect allegedly asked the boy to follow him under the pretence of running an errand, but the teenager never returned alive.
Guraguri explained that the family was alerted by other pupils an hour later, around 7 o’clock in the morning, that the body of his son had been discovered behind the school. “We heard from other pupils around 7am that my son’s body was seen behind the school. We rushed there and then took him to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had died as a result of an attack,” he said.
He added that the funeral prayer was later held within the premises of the Qur’anic school and led by Imam Muhammadu Nagujiya, after which the body was interred at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery.
Spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police Nafi’u Abubakar, confirmed on Monday that the suspect had been arrested by officers attached to the Birnin Kebbi Division. He assured that a thorough investigation had begun to unravel the motive behind the act.
He noted that “an investigation has commenced to determine the motive behind the attack and ensure justice is served.”
