Tinubu Mourns Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Describes Him as a National Moral Compass

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the prominent leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 101. The President described the revered cleric as a towering figure whose teachings, values and lifelong commitment to peace left an enduring mark on Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said the news of Sheikh Bauchi’s death was received “with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss,” noting that the nation had lost a spiritual guide who shaped generations through preaching, teaching and mentorship.

The President highlighted the Sheikh’s role as a moral force in society, recalling the support and prayers he personally received from the Islamic scholar during the build-up to the 2023 general election. According to him, the cleric’s influence transcended religious boundaries and remained rooted in moderation, devotion and the pursuit of peaceful coexistence.

President Bola Tinubu received the news of the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss.

The revered Bauchi-based cleric died Thursday at the age of 101.

The President mourns the late leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, describing him as a moral compass who dedicated his life to teaching and preaching.

President Tinubu says Sheikh Bauchi’s loss is monumental not only to his family and teeming followers but also to the nation.

The President recalls the blessings and moral support he received from the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi in the run-up to the 2023 election.

“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Quran, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” the President says.

President Tinubu condoles with the Sheikh’s followers across the country and beyond for the irreparable loss.

He also urges them to immortalise the late cleric by holding on to his teachings of peaceful coexistence, strengthening their relationship with God and being kind to humanity.
