Nigeria’s former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, says he has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning and will honour the summons “without hesitation.”

Malami announced the development on Friday through a post on his official Facebook page, revealing that he had received a formal invitation from the country’s top anti-graft agency.

Okay News reports that the EFCC has not yet disclosed the specific allegations or issues for which the former minister is being invited.

In his statement, Malami appealed to Nigerians, including his family and associates, to remain calm as he prepares to engage with investigators.

“I would like to inform my family and friends that I have been summoned by the EFCC to provide clarification on certain matters, and as a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I am determined to honour this invitation without any hesitation,” he wrote.

The former minister emphasised that the principles of honesty, integrity and accountability guided his years in public office. He asserted that those same values would shape his approach to the ongoing inquiry.

“I believe in the importance of honesty, integrity and accountability in governance. These are principles that I have long supported and upheld over the years of my public service,” he said.

Malami also pledged to update Nigerians as the situation unfolds, although neither he nor the EFCC has provided further details on the nature of the investigation.
