The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the successful disruption of two robbery operations that occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Hadejia and Sule-Tankarkar areas of the state, leading to the death of one alleged robber and the arrest of three other suspects. Okay News reports.

The confirmation was issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Superintendent of Police Shi’isu Adam, through an official statement shared with journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

According to Superintendent Adam, the first incident unfolded around 3:35 a.m. at the Fruska Table Water Company located in Hadejia Local Government Area. He explained that a group of eight armed individuals invaded the premises with the intent to carry out a coordinated robbery.

He stated that officers attached to the Hadejia “A” Division responded swiftly after receiving the distress alert. The spokesperson said, “A gang of about eight unidentified armed robbers stormed the facility, but officers from Hadejia ‘A’ Division arrived swiftly to confront them.”

He added that the criminals opened fire immediately, resulting in a tense exchange of gunshots between them and the responding officers. “In the intense exchange, one suspect took a fatal gunshot wound while his accomplices scattered into the night,” he said.

Superintendent Adam further explained that the injured suspect was evacuated to the Hadejia General Hospital for treatment but later died as a result of his injuries. From the scene of the operation, the police recovered crude weapons including bows, arrows, cutlasses, and sticks, which he described as “crude weapons that painted a picture of the gang’s desperate assault.”

The command assured the public that an intensive manhunt is ongoing to locate the seven suspects who fled the area. Superintendent Adam emphasised that, “Intensified manhunts are underway to hunt down the seven fleeing suspects and deliver justice.”

In the second incident, which took place at about 3:15 a.m.—approximately twenty minutes before the Hadejia case—three armed men reportedly broke into the residence of one Shamsu Muhd in Togai village within the Sule-Tankarkar Division. They allegedly stole two brand-new Boxer motorcycles before attempting to flee.

Providing more details, Superintendent Adam said, “Alerted to the theft, Sule-Tankarkar Division operatives raced to the scene and cornered the fleeing trio.”

He narrated that during the pursuit, one of the suspects ran into a nearby Primary Health Centre. Before officers could secure him, local residents confronted the suspect, after which the police intervened and made an arrest. A locally made firearm and the two stolen motorcycles were recovered during the operation.

He confirmed that the other two suspects managed to escape, but investigations are in progress to identify and apprehend them. The arrested suspect will face prosecution after the investigation is concluded.

Reaffirming the police commitment to public safety, Superintendent Adam said, “We remain unwavering in our commitment to the protection of lives and property.”

He also encouraged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and relevant information, saying, “The Command calls on the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid our proactive crime-fighting efforts.”
