The Kano State Government in northern Nigeria has dismissed circulating rumours suggesting an imminent security crisis in the state, assuring both residents and the wider international community that Kano remains peaceful, stable and fully under state control. Okay News reports.
The clarification followed a State Security Council meeting held on Sunday, where Governor Abba Yusuf, who leads one of Nigeria’s most economically active states, received a comprehensive briefing from all security chiefs on current intelligence and security operations.
In a statement released on Monday by the Director-General for Media and Publicity, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, officials stated that no intelligence gathered by the country’s recognised security institutions indicates any looming danger.
“There is no valid or actionable information pointing to any significant security risk in Kano,” the statement said. It stressed that the viral messages circulating online were “false, sensational and deliberately crafted to cause panic.”
The government condemned the rising pattern of fabricated security alerts, warning that individuals responsible for such posts risk legal action for creating unnecessary fear.
According to the government, the state has increased intelligence coordination with federal and state-level agencies, local law enforcement bodies and community-based security structures. Surveillance, it noted, has been strengthened across all 44 local government areas of Kano State.
Bature, speaking on behalf of the administration, said, “Security formations have been briefed, strategically deployed and are working round the clock to neutralise any potential breach. Every part of Kano is under active surveillance, supported by a robust security architecture.”
Residents were urged to remain calm, continue with their normal routines, and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
The statement added that Governor Yusuf’s administration is intensifying intelligence-gathering efforts, improving cooperation among agencies, and investing in modern security technologies to maintain safety.
“Kano will not succumb to fear, misinformation or attempts to destabilise its peace. The government remains fully committed to protecting lives and property,” the statement said.
