The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched an investigation into allegations of corruption against Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Okay News reports that the move follows a formal petition submitted on Tuesday by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, through his legal team.

In the petition, Dangote demanded the arrest and prosecution of Ahmed, accusing the regulator of living far beyond his legitimate earnings and alleging that he used five million dollars to fund his children’s secondary education in Switzerland.

Reacting to the development, ICPC spokesperson John Odey confirmed receipt of the petition and assured that the allegations would be fully examined.

“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to confirm that it received a formal petition today Tuesday 16th December, 2025 from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer. The petition is against the CEO of the NMDPRA, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed. The ICPC wishes to state that the petition will be duly investigated,” Odey said.

Dangote explained that his intention was not to remove Ahmed from office but to prompt an independent inquiry into the regulator’s conduct.

“I am not calling for his removal, but for a proper investigation,” he said. “He should be required to account for his actions and demonstrate that he has not compromised his position to the detriment of Nigerians.”

He urged the Code of Conduct Bureau and other relevant oversight bodies to scrutinise the matter, adding that he was ready to provide supporting evidence if required.
