The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has granted interim bail to Abubakar Malami, Nigeria’s former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, in a case involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Okay News reports that the ruling was delivered on December 23, 2025, by Justice Bello Kawu of the Abuja Judicial Division while presiding over Motion No: M/17220/2025.

According to the court order, Malami’s interim bail was approved on the same conditions earlier set by the EFCC, including the surrender of his international passport and the execution of bail bonds by two sureties.

The court recognised the Director-General of the Nigerian Legal Aid Council and a serving member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives representing the Augie/Argungu Federal Constituency as acceptable sureties under the bail arrangement.

Justice Kawu also reviewed and formally reactivated bail conditions that had been fulfilled earlier on November 28, 2025, confirming that Malami had already complied with the requirements to provide the two sureties and surrender his travel document.

In his ruling, the judge held that the interim bail was granted on the grounds of exceptional hardship, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion on notice filed before the court.

Okay News reports that the matter has been adjourned to January 5, 2026, when the court will hear the motion on notice and decide the next stage of the proceedings.
