Tunisia began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a commanding 3-1 win over Uganda in Rabat, ending a 12-year wait for an opening match victory.

Ellyes Skhiri opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a header from a corner, and Elias Achouri added a second just before half-time with a precise side-foot volley. Achouri doubled his tally in the 64th minute after goalkeeper Salim Magoola fumbled a shot from Ali Abdi, securing Tunisia’s decisive lead.

Uganda struggled to create chances despite introducing forwards Denis Omedi and Travis Mutyaba at half-time, only pulling one back in stoppage time through Omedi, whose strike took a heavy deflection. Tunisia’s victory puts them top of Group C on goal difference, following Nigeria’s 2-1 win against Tanzania earlier in the day.

Tunisia will next face Nigeria in Fes on Saturday evening at 20:00 GMT, while Uganda take on Tanzania earlier the same day in an East African derby. The win sets Tunisia up strongly as they aim to advance from the group stage.
