The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, has strongly condemned the bomb explosion that occurred on Wednesday, 24th December 2025, Christmas Eve, in Borno State, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of failing in its duty to protect citizens.

The blast took place at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in North-Eastern Nigeria, killing and injuring several worshippers. The PDP spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, expressed deep sympathy for the families affected by the tragedy.

Okay News reports that Ememobong described the attack as “another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across the country, particularly in the North-East.” He highlighted the growing fear and anxiety that many Nigerians now experience daily due to violent incidents.

“The news of an explosion in a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, is a sad reminder of the rising insecurity that Nigerians are forced to live with daily,” Ememobong stated.

The PDP spokesperson sharply criticized the Federal Government’s handling of security, insisting that protecting lives and property is the fundamental duty of any government.

“This is totally unacceptable. The irreducible minimum any government owes its people is protection. This administration has failed woefully and must act decisively instead of resorting to rhetoric,” Ememobong added.

The party warned that the repeated targeting of places of worship threatens religious freedom, peace, and national unity in a multi-religious country like Nigeria.

“We commiserate with the families who lost their loved ones in this senseless attack. No Nigerian should lose their life while worshiping God,” the PDP stated.

The opposition urged both the Federal Government and Borno State authorities to urgently strengthen security measures, particularly during festive seasons when public gatherings are more frequent.
