The Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully conducted precision strikes against two key Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist enclaves in the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed in a statement on Friday, 26 December 2025.
According to the Minister, intelligence revealed that the targeted locations were being used by foreign ISIS operatives infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel region, in coordination with local affiliates, to plan large-scale attacks within the country.
The strikes, executed between 00:12 and 01:30 hours, were carried out with explicit approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and involved full coordination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the supervision of the Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministries and the Chief of Defence Staff.
The operation deployed 16 GPS-guided precision munitions via MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms from maritime positions in the Gulf of Guinea, successfully neutralizing the terrorist threat.
Debris from the munitions fell in Jabo, Sokoto State, and Offa, Kwara State, but no civilian casualties were reported. Minister Idris emphasized that Nigeria remains fully committed to confronting terrorist networks, ensuring national security, and coordinating with strategic partners to safeguard lives, property, and regional stability.
