Sudan secured a crucial 1–0 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Sunday night in their Group E clash at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca, breathing new life into their Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The game saw both teams searching desperately for points after opening-round defeats.

Okay News reports that the breakthrough came in the second half when Equatorial Guinea defender Saúl Coco inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Sudan’s forwards. The goal proved decisive as Sudan adopted a disciplined defensive approach to frustrate Equatorial Guinea’s late attempts at an equaliser.

Despite dominating possession for long spells, Equatorial Guinea struggled to convert chances, while Sudan remained compact and organised until the final whistle.

The result keeps Sudan mathematically in contention for a knockout spot, while Equatorial Guinea now face elimination from the tournament.
