Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that his government will prioritize supporting United States-led efforts to combat the persecution of Christians globally, with a specific focus on Nigeria.

Speaking to evangelical community leaders in Florida on Wednesday, January 1, 2026, the Prime Minister emphasized that protecting religious freedom is a top priority for his administration in the new year.

The announcement followed a meeting between Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Okay News reports that the Prime Minister identified radical extremist movements as the primary drivers of this persecution, specifically naming Nigeria alongside Middle Eastern nations like Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey as regions where Christian communities face significant threats.

Netanyahu proposed the formation of a “united nations of countries” dedicated to defending beleaguered religious groups. He stated that Israel is prepared to contribute significant resources to this mission, including providing critical intelligence (intel) in Africa and utilizing various strategic means in the Middle East to ensure the safety and growth of Christian populations.

This collaboration comes just one week after the United States military conducted targeted airstrikes in Sokoto and Kwara States of Nigeria.
