Ex-Gov. ‘Sule Lamido’ and Sons Moved To Abuja Prison

The former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, and his sons, have been transfered from Kano prison to Kuje prison in Abuja.

Mr. Lamido was transferred in a preparations for a bail hearing, expected on Tuesday.

The former governor and his sons are facing corruption charges.
On Wednesday, a federal judge ordered they be detained in Kano prison till September 28 when their bail applications would be heard.

However, a prison official in Kano said that he saw the governor and his sons being taken away from the prison
at about 10am on Monday.

He said Lamido and his sons could be
transported to Abuja by road because there was no sign they were to travel by air.

When Guest visited the Kano prison early Monday, waiting to see Mr. Lamido, apparently unaware they had been moved.

The former governor’s counsel, Effiong Effiong, succeeded in having a vacation judge assigned to hear the case in Abuja.

A source said already some of the former
governor’s aides had moved to Abuja in
preparations for a possible bail hearing.

A spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson
Uwujaren, said he did not have the information about the transfer.
However, a prison official in Kuje confirmed the reports that the former governor and his sons had been moved into the facility at about 4pm Monday.
