[UPDATED] Bomb Blast Hits Yola , 17 Dead

Many worshipers are feared dead in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, after a bomb attack on a Jumaat mosque in Jimeta area of the city.

The explosion occurred as worshippers were observing the weekly Jumaat service, and many worshipers are feared dead and injured.

A reporter in Yola said rescue officials from the Red Cross, the National Emergency Management Agency and the security agencies have arrived the scene and and were evacuate victims to hospital.

“As I speak to you, dismembered bodies of several victims are being moved and the place have been cordoned off,” he said.

The Yola attack occurred hours after a similar explosion occurred in a mosque in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, killing and injuring many worshipers during the early morning prayer session.

That blast, according to residents, occurred in Jiddari Polo area at about 5am when Muslims were performing the first congregational prayer of the day.

About 17 people have been confirmed dead and 73 others injured after a bomb ripped through a mosque in Jambutu area in Yola, Adamawa state this afternoon. Many of the Muslim faithfuls were leaving the mosque just after their Friday prayers when the incident happened. This blast comes hours after a similar incident occurred at a mosque in Maiduguri killing 28 people. Most of the injured are in critical condition and have been moved to the federal medical centre, Yola. The state governor has called for blood donation for the injured.
