Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, has dismissed the widespread rumour that he is planning to cut down salaries of civil servants in the state.

The governor who made the clarification while fielding questions from journalists at the government house in Makurdi stated that those circulating the falsehood only wanted to give his administration a bad name.

He said: “We have no intention to cut down salaries of workers in the state despite the dwindling allocation from the federation account and a corresponding fall in the prices of oil in the market.”

Ortom explained that the state government does not owe any worker any kobo, and noted that salaries had been paid up-to-date including lecturers at the Benue State University.

He said he had directed that February salary should be paid to workers since every worker deserves his wages at the end of each month.
