Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has called on the newly promoted 126 policemen from the rank of inspector to Assistant Superintended of Police (ASP) in Niger state to become more dedicated to serving the county as officers.

Arase made the call yesterday through the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abubakar Marafa, while decorating the promoted officers in Minna, including 26 others who were confirmed as ASP.

He said the police management team was determined to eliminate back log of promotions, adding that officers would be promoted on merit.

He said their promotion should serve as source of encouragement for them to put in their best in discharging their duties and that more was expected from them in performances.

While answering questions from journalists, CP Marafa said crime rate has drastically reduced in the state, adding that “we have been taking the war to the hideouts of the criminals.”

He said the battle against cattle rustlers and armed bandits had succeeded in the state while the command was on high alert on kidnappers.

He said kidnappers operating in the state had shifted to the hinterlands and that the police were on top of the situation, adding that “we recently rescued five victims, killed three kidnappers and recovered two AK47 rifles.”

He said the public had been very useful in giving out information that had led to the arrest of several criminals, urging the residents to be vigilant and to report suspicious movements to the nearest security in their communities.
