Aisha Yesufu Defects to NDC for FCT Senate Run

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Abuja, NIGERIA – Nigerian activist and political figure Aisha Yesufu has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). In a statement released on Wednesday, Yesufu announced that her move is a direct act of loyalty to the leadership of HE Peter Obi, whom she describes as the embodiment of “the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works.”

Yesufu’s transition is not merely as a party member; she has formally declared her intention to run for the FCT Senatorial seat under the NDC banner for the 2027 General Elections. This move follows the “Absolute Clarity” of her political trajectory, noting that her initial support for Peter Obi had led her to the ADC, but the current political climate necessitates this shift to “honor the promise” of a better Nigeria.

Okay News reports that Yesufu has “tidied up” all obligations to the ADC, where she previously served in several sub-committee and deputy chair roles.

Yesufu’s resignation adds to the growing “stubborn” reality of a mass exodus from the ADC. Earlier this week, Senate President Godswill Akpabio famously remarked that the “ADC is dead” following the high-profile defections of Senators Victor Umeh and Rufai Hanga to the NDC, alongside Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s move to the Labour Party. The NDC is rapidly emerging as the primary vehicle for “Obidient” forces and those seeking a “New Nigeria” outside the traditional APC/PDP structure.
