VP Shettima Endorses Senator Wadada for 2027 Nasarawa Governorship

LAFIA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the successor to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, during the Nasarawa Investment Summit 2026 in Lafia.

Okay News reports that Kashim Shettima identified Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, the current representative of the Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, as the candidate to lead the state following the 2027 elections.

The Vice President spoke at the opening of the two-day summit, which was organized by the Nasarawa State Government under the theme “Bold Transitions, Building a Legacy for a Sustainable Future.”

“I want to assure the investing public that, by the grace of God, seated in our midst here is the next governor of Nasarawa. He would abide by the contract,” Kashim Shettima said.

The Vice President described the senator as a technocrat who gained experience in the banking industry and stated that the endorsement aimed to maintain investor confidence during the upcoming political transition.

“Senator Wadada, you have your job cut out for you. We wish you well,” Kashim Shettima said.

The summit featured the launch of the Lafia Declaration, a commitment signed by members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, and the Nasarawa State Judiciary to sustain economic reforms.

Kashim Shettima said “the greatest gift any leader can leave is the certainty that progress will survive after him,” and described continuity as a primary factor for the state.

The Lafia Declaration serves as a voluntary agreement between development partners and the All Progressives Congress to honor existing contracts and policies after the 2027 transition.
