American Rock Legend, Tom Petty Is Dead

American rock legend Tom Petty died on Monday in a Los Angeles hospital after battling cardiac arrest in his Malibu home.

He was aged 66.

The singer’s manager, Tony Dimitriades, confirmed his death in a statement.

It was learnt that Tom Petty’s wife called 911 around 10:45 pm on Sunday night to report that her husband was not breathing.

When paramedics arrived at their home and tried to stabilise him. They immediately rushed him to the hospital where he was put on life support but he died shortly after that.

Dimitriades said in a statement: “He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40pm PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”

Tom Petty was born in Gainesville Florida. He was pulled to rock and roll at the age of 11 after he met Elvis Presley on a movie set.

Petty started his sojourn in rock and roll with his first band ‘The Sundowners’ in high school at the age of 14.

He was a member of the popular ‘Heartbreaker’ Rock n Roll band.
