AMVCA 2026: Arukwe, Ejiofor Win Big as “My Father’s Shadow” Dominates

LAGOS, Nigeria — The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, has honoured outstanding achievements in African film, television, and digital storytelling, with “My Father’s Shadow” emerging as Best Overall Movie.

The ceremony, which began at 7 p.m., was broadcast live across Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, and streamed via DStv Stream and GOtv Stream, bringing together filmmakers, actors, and industry stakeholders from across the continent.

Okay News reports that Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for his role in “Colours Of Fire”, while Linda Ejiofor secured Best Lead Actress for “The Serpent’s Gift”.

In supporting categories, Bucci Franklin won Best Supporting Actor for “To Kill A Monkey”, while Linda Ejiofor also claimed Best Supporting Actress for “The Herd”.

Akinola Davies Jr. was named Best Director for “My Father’s Shadow”, which also dominated technical categories including Best Cinematography and Best Music Score.

The awards recognised achievements across multiple regions, with “Lisabi: A Legend Is Born” winning Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), while “Addis Fikir” and “Tlhaho Ya Mosadi” won in East Africa and South Africa categories respectively. In North Africa, “Artal Alhanin: Our Memories” took the top prize, while “Mabanda” won in Central Africa.

In television categories, “The Low Priest” won Best Scripted M-Net Original, while “Nigerian Idol Season 10” was named Best Unscripted M-Net Original. “Inimba” won Best Scripted Series, while “Nigerian Idol” also secured Best Unscripted Series.

Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom won Best Digital Content Creator, while “Hussaini” emerged as Best Short Film.

In writing categories, Wale Davies won Best Writing in a Movie for “My Father’s Shadow”, while the team behind “MTV Shuga Mashariki” won Best Writing in a TV Series.

Technical awards saw Daniel Anyiam win Best Editing for “To Kill A Monkey”, while Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra won Best Sound Design for “My Father’s Shadow”. Ajamolaya Bunmi won Best Art Direction for “Colours Of Fire”, and Valerie Okeke secured Best Costume Design for the same film.

The ceremony also recognised industry contributions, with Uche Montana receiving the Trailblazer Award, while Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo were honoured with the Industry Merit Award.
