ABAKALIKI, Nigeria — National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has been conferred with the traditional title of Chimereze I of Ebonyi State by the Ebonyi State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The honour was bestowed on the APC chairman by the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ezeogo Charles Nwefuru Mkpuma, in recognition of his contributions to public service, governance and national development.
Okay News reports that Prof. Yilwatda is a former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. During his time at INEC, he was involved in electoral reforms, including initiatives aimed at improving participation by internally displaced persons and persons living with disabilities, as well as expanding the use of technology in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Before entering public service, Yilwatda built a career in academia and technology. As Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, he oversaw programmes focused on social protection and poverty alleviation, while also serving on key national and international policy bodies, including the Presidential Economic Management Team.
The conferment of the title, Chimereze I, adds to a growing list of recognitions received by the APC chairman and reflects the traditional institution’s acknowledgement of his contributions to governance, public administration and social development.
Traditional rulers at the event described the honour as a recognition of Yilwatda’s commitment to public service and his efforts toward advancing development initiatives that impact communities across Nigeria.
