State House, Abuja, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, resulting in the exit of two prominent members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The changes were announced on Tuesday, in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Okay News reports that in a major change within the economic team, Mr. Wale Edun has been directed to vacate his position as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy. He is to be succeeded by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as the Minister of State in the same ministry. Oyedele, a renowned tax expert and chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, now takes full charge of the nation’s fiscal and economic coordination.
The reshuffle also affected the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, with Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa leaving the cabinet. Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate to fill the vacancy. In the interim, Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over operations to the Minister of State in the housing ministry. Dr. Darma is a notable academic and administrator, previously serving as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
The SGF stated that these changes are designed to “strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance” while accelerating the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda. The memo mandates that all handing over and taking over processes must be concluded by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Senator Akume emphasized that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 to effect these changes.
The President expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their service and signaled that the “process of reinvigoration” within the cabinet would be a continuous exercise. This development follows weeks of speculation regarding a performance-based assessment of the Federal Executive Council as the administration nears its third year in office.
