In a groundbreaking partnership between Spotify and FC Barcelona, legendary British band Coldplay will feature on the club’s jersey for the highly anticipated El Clásico match against Real Madrid on October 26, 2024.

The Coldplay logo, inspired by their latest album Moon Music, will also be worn by the FC Barcelona Femení team during their Liga F match against Eibar on November 2.

This unique collaboration celebrates the unity between football and music, with Spotify once again bringing together iconic figures from both worlds. Coldplay’s Moon Music, released on October 4, debuted at number one on Spotify’s global charts, and the band is officially the most streamed British band of all time on the platform.

Coldplay’s influence on the football world, especially FC Barcelona, runs deep. Their hit song “Viva la Vida” became an unofficial anthem for the club during their historic 2008-09 season.

The band has 12 tracks in Spotify’s Billions Club, the most of any band, and their music has been added to over 100 million user-generated playlists worldwide.

In a joint statement, Coldplay expressed their excitement over the partnership:

“We’re honoured that Spotify has chosen to feature our Moon Music design on the shirt of FC Barcelona. We’ve had a special relationship with the city and the club for many years. We’re also proud to support the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in their life-saving work to protect refugees and displaced people around the world.”

Exclusive Merchandise and Jerseys

In addition to the jerseys worn during El Clásico, a limited edition of 1,899 jerseys—inspired by the club’s founding year—will be available for purchase. A special pre-sale will begin on October 17, with the official launch on October 18 via the Barça Official Stores in Spain and online. For superfans, 22 glow-in-the-dark jerseys, signed by FC Barcelona’s starting men’s and women’s team players, will be offered, with all proceeds going to the UNHCR.

Additionally, a Coldplay-inspired lifestyle collection of t-shirts, hoodies, and scarves will be available, combining celestial designs from Moon Music with FC Barcelona’s iconic colors. A portion of the proceeds from the merchandise will also benefit the UNHCR, in line with the partnership formed between FC Barcelona and the UNHCR in 2022.

A Celebration of Unity Through Music and Football

Spotify’s Vice President of Partnerships and Marketing, Marc Hazan, highlighted the significance of this collaboration:

“Coldplay is one of the most beloved bands in the world on Spotify, and their storied connection to Barça runs deep. We are thrilled to celebrate that history with fans worldwide through the iconic Barça jersey.”

Similarly, Juli Guiu, VP Marketing at FC Barcelona, shared the club’s excitement:

“We are delighted that through our partnership with Spotify, Coldplay will feature on the FC Barcelona shirt for El Clásico. The band and the club have a mutual love which stretches back many years from the band visiting training sessions to Barça players watching Coldplay live in Barcelona.”

This partnership continues to strengthen the bond between music and football, symbolizing the power both forms of entertainment have to bring people together.

Limited Edition Jersey and Merchandise Details:

  • Pre-sale: October 17, 2024, at 11:30 pm CEST.
  • Official launch: October 18, 2024, at 10:00 am CEST.
