Vicente del Bosque says Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player Real Madrid have ever had in the wake of the attacker’s fourth Ballon d’Or win.

The Portugal icon was named as the winner of the award on Monday by France Football, having played an instrumental role in Champions League and Euro 2016 wins for club and country respectively.

Madrid have had a large number of legendary players in their ranks, including the likes of Alfredo Di Stefano, the winner of five European Cups with the club, Ferenc Puskas, Luis Figo, ex-Brazil striker Ronaldo, current coach Zinedine Zidane and many more.

But former Madrid player and coach Del Bosque says the Santiago Bernabeu are witnessing the best player ever to have pulled on the jersey.

“Ronaldo is the best player in the history of Madrid through the records that he has set,” Del Bosque told reporters.

“But he always does it without devaluing other players.”

While Ronaldo continues to win plaudits and praise, Del Bosque was disappointed that Andres Iniesta has never won the award, despite immense success for club and country.

Though he did finish second to Messi in 2010 after scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final, the ex-Spain coach maintains he is still underappreciated.

“Iniesta is a good player,” he added. “Nothing changes that journalists do not take it into account in the votes for the Ballon d’Or.”
