LAGOS, Nigeria — Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel, also known as Jet A1, to ₦1,650 per litre (approximately $1.10) from ₦1,750 per litre (approximately $1.17).
The refinery said the adjustment is aimed at easing cost pressures on airline operators and ensuring stable fuel supply across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Okay News reports that the company also introduced a 30-day interest-free credit facility backed by bank guarantees for fuel marketers and airline operators as part of broader measures to support the industry.
The refinery further confirmed a transition from a dollar-based pricing system to a naira-denominated structure for aviation fuel transactions.
The development comes amid mounting concerns over rising operational costs in Nigeria’s aviation sector, where fuel expenses account for a significant share of airline operating costs.
Domestic carriers and industry stakeholders have repeatedly warned that the increasing cost of Jet A1 fuel was placing financial pressure on operators and affecting the sustainability of flight operations.
The latest reduction is expected to lower fuel procurement costs for airlines, improve operational stability, and potentially support efforts to moderate airfare increases.
The refinery’s intervention also comes at a time when operators in Nigeria’s aviation industry continue to seek measures that can improve access to fuel and reduce exposure to foreign exchange volatility.
Dangote Refinery, one of Africa’s largest refining facilities, has continued to expand its supply activities across fuel markets since commencing operations.
