Defence Minister Seeks Sustained Military Funding During Visit to Finance Minister Oyedele

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has paid a working visit to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Professor Taiwo Oyedele, amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to intensify security operations across the country.

The visit took place at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja, where the Defence Minister congratulated Oyedele on his appointment and appealed for continued financial support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Okay News reports that according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday, the request for sustained funding is aimed at enabling the military to maintain pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups operating across the country.

The development comes amid renewed assurances by the Tinubu administration that security and economic conditions are gradually improving under ongoing government reforms.

Earlier this week, the Defence Minister stated that Nigeria’s overall security and national outlook were improving under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and energy assets.

Oyedele, a tax policy expert and former chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, currently serves as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy.

The Federal Government has repeatedly stressed that improved coordination between fiscal authorities and security institutions remains critical to sustaining military operations and broader national stability.
