Shettima Arrives Maiduguri for Eid-el-Kabir Celebration

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to observe the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The Vice President was received in the state ahead of the Sallah festivities, which are expected to draw Muslim faithful across Nigeria into days of prayers, reflection, and celebration.

Okay News reports that Shettima conveyed warm wishes and blessings to Nigerians celebrating the Islamic festival, urging citizens to embrace peace, unity, and compassion during the season.

The Vice President’s arrival in Borno comes shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu released his Eid-el-Kabir message to the nation, where he called on Nigerians to remain hopeful amid ongoing economic and security reforms.

In the presidential message issued on Tuesday, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges confronting the country but maintained that his administration’s reforms were beginning to stabilize the economy and strengthen national security.

The President also urged Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Kabir celebration as an opportunity to pray for the country, support the less privileged, and reinforce national unity.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God and remains one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar.
