Renowned Nigerian music executive and record producer Don Jazzy has opened up about his long-standing fear of marriage, revealing that his hesitation stems from the painful realities of failed relationships, public scandals, and the financial risks that often accompany divorce.
In a candid interview with HabbyFX, the Mavin Records boss reflected on how his outlook on love has been shaped by personal experiences and what he has observed in today’s social media-driven culture.
“My parents were madly in love before my mom died, and that makes me believe in love… But when you see messy breakups online, it gives fear,” he said.
The award-winning producer, best known for hits like Dorobucci and Overdose, shared that the constant drama surrounding celebrity relationships often discourages him from taking the plunge again.
“A man has to lose half of all that he has worked for in his life, that’s those ones that don’t have a prenup, like in America. All those things used to scare me. The money that I have amassed is for my generation,” Don Jazzy explained.
Despite his concerns, the Mavin Records founder said he still believes in love and remains open to marriage — but only when he finds the right person.
“I’m still optimistic about marriage. I just haven’t found the right person yet,” he said.
Don Jazzy, whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, was previously married in 2003 but divorced two years later.
He has since remained single, focusing on his career and building one of Africa’s most successful music labels, which has launched the careers of stars such as Rema, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe.
