BENIN CITY, Nigeria — The Edo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that students of Green Park Academy in Aduwawa, Benin City, were kidnapped, describing the claims as false and misleading.
Okay News reports that police authorities said a preliminary investigation found no evidence that any kidnapping occurred at the school. According to the Command, the report was fabricated and deliberately shared online, causing unnecessary alarm among residents.
The police said the claim was being circulated by a social media personality known as “Azawoman.” Investigators concluded that the allegation had no factual basis and was intended to spread misinformation and create panic within the state.
The Command condemned the dissemination of false security-related information, warning that such actions can undermine public confidence, generate fear, and distract security agencies from addressing genuine threats. Police authorities said efforts are already underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for originating the report.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika reassured residents that the security situation in Edo State remains stable and under control. He urged members of the public to verify information through credible and official sources before sharing it and encouraged citizens to report security concerns through appropriate channels for prompt investigation and response.
