‘Please Release Our Children’ — Peter Obi Appeals to Bandits Who Abducted Schoolchildren

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria — Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has appealed to the abductors of a group of schoolchildren to release them, describing their reported condition as heartbreaking and a reflection of Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

Okay News reports that Obi said he was deeply disturbed after seeing images showing the children with injuries allegedly inflicted during their captivity. He noted that the incident highlights the long-term consequences of poor governance and insecurity.

The former Anambra State governor reiterated his long-held warning that societal failures often create problems that future generations are forced to bear. He argued that decisions made by leaders today, including governance failures and rising debt burdens, could have lasting effects on Nigeria’s children and young people.

Addressing those holding the children, Obi urged them to reflect on the innocence of their captives and consider the pain being endured by their families. He said every child represents the hopes and dreams of parents who have invested their future in them.

He appealed for compassion and humanity, stressing that no grievance or hardship can justify harming innocent children. Obi called on the abductors to release the victims immediately and allow them to return safely to their families and communities.
